Monday Window – April 15, 2024

Window, blind, and shadows

Last week was the solar eclipse, however at my location in Georgia it was only a partial one. Rather than going outside and viewing it with appropriate glasses I decided to see a television feed of the total solar eclipse and also project the partial eclipse as a “floor show” inside.

The week before I made sure that unobscucted sunlight was coming in the window during the eclipse time. That’s where this photo came from. It shows the window with the blind down to see the shadows of the slat awning and the trees outside.

Yes, it would work, and it did. During the eclipse I used a cardboard “projector” held up into the sunlight and a sheet of white paper on the floor for the images of the sun. The cardboard had some holes covered with aluminum foil with small holes punched into the foil with a toothpick. Here is a photo of the “floor show”.
