Ship Windows

Just eleven years ago a friend of mine visited with me and we “did Savannah”. Savannah is a marvelous place for photography, old buildings, wonderful parks and squares, bustling activities all around especially along the waterfront.

Here are some windows of ships. Ship windows are not of the decorative kind, they are functional, and there are just enough of them to serve the purpose.

The big ship here is the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Talisman, a “ro-ro” carrier. That stands for “roll on – roll off”. It is a huge mobile garage. Over 5000 cars can be driven on, parked, and then driven off at the destination.

You can see the huge ramp at the stern of the vessel. That makes it quite self-contained and requires few port facilities – other than a huge parking area for all the cars.

The small tug is the Bulldog. Tugs help the large vessels to maneuver around on the river, they have large towing capacities. They also are equipped with firefighting gear and ferry the river pilots to and from the cargo ships.
