More ship windows

There exists a folder on my computer with “candidate” photos of windows. Some are old, from my archives, some are quite recent. They are queued up in a loose order of “coming appearance”, some make it, some don’t. Some get delayed, some taken ahead. Sometimes it gets rather confusing. That has been happening lately when I “borrowed” some of the photos for other blogs. More on that next week, but for today I want to clear out a bit of a clog. Some ship photos that didn’t get used before and seem too nice to just forget about.

Thus today’s ship window from a Savannah river tug. Those tugs make sure that the big ships get upstream and back some 18 miles to the port facilities. Here then tug Edward J. Moran.

This tug was assisting the container ship NYK Diana some eleven years ago. Much larger ships are now able to visit Savannah.

Ship Windows – 2

My recent post, Ship Windows, got some nice responses, so here is the continuation of that topic.

This is a container ship – very common these days.

A little bonus here. Notice the window of the lifeboat.

Below is a wider view of another container ship coming up the Savannah River and heading for the port upriver of downtown and River Street.

Now this last one is not a container ship, not one of the globe-trotting commercial carries, it is the River Queen. I showed photos of this tourist attraction before, Monday Window – December 16, 2019.

Ship Windows

Just eleven years ago a friend of mine visited with me and we “did Savannah”. Savannah is a marvelous place for photography, old buildings, wonderful parks and squares, bustling activities all around especially along the waterfront.

Here are some windows of ships. Ship windows are not of the decorative kind, they are functional, and there are just enough of them to serve the purpose.

The big ship here is the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Talisman, a “ro-ro” carrier. That stands for “roll on – roll off”. It is a huge mobile garage. Over 5000 cars can be driven on, parked, and then driven off at the destination.

You can see the huge ramp at the stern of the vessel. That makes it quite self-contained and requires few port facilities – other than a huge parking area for all the cars.

The small tug is the Bulldog. Tugs help the large vessels to maneuver around on the river, they have large towing capacities. They also are equipped with firefighting gear and ferry the river pilots to and from the cargo ships.
